Sammy Hagar and Jerry Harrison Join Stealth RatDog Show

A view of last night’s show from the RatDog.org community boards

A day after reuniting for a show at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios, last night RatDog played a stealth gig at Mill Valley, CA’s recently reopened Sweetwater Music Hall. Weir and RatDog took the stage in front of an invite-only crowd and offered a two-set performance. Like Wednesday’s webcast, last night’s RatDog lineup feature Weir, guitarists Mark Karan and Steve Kimock, bassist Rob Wasserman, drummer Jay Lane and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti as well as a horn section consisting of Kenny Brooks and Dave Ellis.

During the group’s first set, former Van Halen singer—and longtime Grateful Dead neighbor and pal— Sammy Hagar sat in for a take on “Loose Lucy.” A clip of Hagar rehearsing the song with RatDog was broadcast during the setbreak of RatDog’s recent TRI Show. In standard RatDog fashion, Weir played acoustic guitar for the first few songs of his second set, including “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “Deep Elem Blues” and “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” A more surprising treat took place a few songs later when Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison emerged to play keys on a cover of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.” RatDog has covered the classic soul tune since their early days, and the cover was Talking Heads’ first hit in the late ’70s. While RatDog has no other dates on the books, there is always a chance Weir will perform at the venue again since he is now a co-owner of Sweetwater.

Here’s a look at last night’s setlist via RatDog.org
