Prolific composer and recording artist Chick Corea will release a new album, enetitled The Continents on February 7 via Deutsche Grammophon. Divided into two distinct discs, the first—composed of six sections depicting Africa, the Americas, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and Europe—is a globally inspired concerto for jazz quintet and chamber orchestra while the second features new solo and quintet jazz recordings. As Corea explains:

“The music may have its technical flaws, as perfection was never the goal—but I’m pleased that the music was made in the Spirit Of Play, which was the initial intent of the composition after being invited to write a “piano concerto in the spirit of Mozart” by the Wiener Mozartjahr.”

Corea will hit the road in March in support of the new release. The dates kick off with a special performance alongside UNCW’s distinguished Professor of Jazz and drummer Joe Chambers and bassist Steve Bailey as part of the the 30th Annual UNCW Jazz Festival.
