The Zappa Family Trust has announced that it will release the original recording of the legendary Captain Beefheart album Bat Chain Puller in its original format.

The recordings took place in 1976 but were never released on Frank Zappa’s label, which Beefheart was signed to. According to sources, the album was abandoned due to “all the usual financial difficulties in the proverbial record business, including breach of contract with the artist, lawsuits with artist management and distribution for the label.” Some of the recordings did appear on Captain Beefheart’s 1978 album Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller), but this will be the first time Bat Chain Puller will be heard in its original form.

You can pre-order the album now via the Zappa Family Trust imprint Barkfo-Swill.
