Widespread Panic kicked off their Mexico-based destination event Panic en la Playa last night. Held in Quintana Roo, Mexico, the event will host Panic’s final electric shows for the indefinite future. The festivities kicked off at 9:15 PM with a toast on the beach and, counting a late night performance by DJ Logic, music stretched past 4 AM this morning.

Panic kicked off their performance with “She Caught the Katy!,” but the band truly welcomed fans to Mexico at the start of their second set during “Bust it Big,” whose lyrics include the lines “Bust it big, write my ticket/Gonna call my shots and ride my liquor down/To Mexico.” The night later came to a close with a three-song segue from “Gimme” into “Machine” and “Barstools and Dreamers.”

Panic en la Playa continues today. In addition to music, today’s festivities include a golf tournament with Panic percussionist Sunny Ortiz.
