Trey Anastasio Kicks Off Winter Symphony Tour

A look at last night’s show via Trey Anastasio’s official Facebook page

Trey Anastasio kicked off his first-ever orchestral tour at Atlanta, GA’s Atlanta Symphony Hall last night. The brief outing is the culmination of the Phish guitarist’s symphony work over the past eleven years. Anastasio’s first official orchestral collaboration was with the Vermont Youth Symphony in 2001. Anastasio has shared the stage with Orchestra Nashville, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic since that time.

Anastasio has steadily added Phish songs, solo material and other songs to his orchestral repertoire at each engagement. He’s also used his orchestral work to showcase some number that have fallen out of Phish and Trey Anastasio Band’s rotation like “Time Turns Elastic,” “If I could,” “Let Me Lie” and “Inlaw Josie Wales.” During his encore last night, Anastasio also debuted his orchestra version of The Beatles’ Abbey Road suite (Anastasio played an electric version of the classic suite with 70 Volt Parade a few years ago). The Phish classic “Stash,” which Anastasio performed with the Scorchio Quintet in 2010, also made its formal symphony debut, and the Bar 17 gem “Goodbye Head,” which the guitarist played with a string section during a solo gig, was performed with a larger orchestra for the first time.

Anastasio’s symphony tour will continue at Pittsburgh, PA’s Heinz Hall on Valentine’s Day.

He’s experimenting…the idea is definitely in ts adolescence and may or may not make it to he next level…maybe so, maybe not. At any rate, he’s trying something new people, boldly going where no man has gone before and look at all the people hes taking along for the ride. And as Les Claypool said, they can’t all be zingers. Also, last I checked the last two performances are sold out.

First of all wow if you were actually at the show and enjoy good quality music you left with a shit eating grin on your face because the music is wonderful. He is trying something new (11years) people and if he wasnt I would really wonder about him. Gotta keep the mind sharp and always be doing new things. And as E said above ALL the shows are sold out so some people have interest. Oh and not just any musician is capable of playing with, hmm lets say THEY NEW YORK PHIlHARMONIC. Its not fall 1997 time to grow up!

as one critic once said, trey could pee in the ears of phish fans and they would call it brilliance.
bieber sells out shows doesn’t mean it is any good
fans are so sensitive these days, relax.
back to the farmhouse trey, heh heh
that ought to stir the pot, enjoy
