Phil Lesh & Friends Close Out Broomfield Run

Phil Lesh & Friends returned to the road this past week with three shows at Broomfield, CO’s 1st Bank Center. The group’s first Colorado-area shows in nearly four years featured the lineup of Lesh, Warren Haynes, Jackie Greene, John Scofield, Joe Russo and Jeff Chimenti, and were the also the only performances of the year thus far aside from last Tuesday’s special live-webcast Valentines show at Lesh’s recently opened venue/restaurant, Terrapin Crossroads. The full setlist for all three nights can be viewed below, along with a fan-shot video of “Estimated Prophet” from Friday’s show.

wont get fooled again February 20, 2012, 22:24:36

Put jackie back in the box..this stinks.I think people are high..or not high enough to hear the music..they just want to latch onto any sliver of Jerrys creation..Recycled..Not Psychedelic

jambands February 21, 2012, 00:44:17

^Every band featured on this website latches on to a sliver of Jerry’s creation, what’s your point? Listened to the first two shows so far, it’s just good ol’ grateful dead music with dang good musicians. Recycle me up! Love that Russo’s involved with Phil now.

Possibly the best part of this 3-show run was that they weren’t trying to be the Grateful Dead or replicate their exact sound. This was a group of incredible musicians who just wanted to play some Dead tunes and have fun. Regardless of how you view post-Jerry Dead bands, if anything this shows the timelessness and beauty of his music.

Three great shows! I feel sorry for “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Too bad you can’t enjoy the music for what it is. Phil Lesh was a big a part of the creation and evolution of the Grateful Dead. The sound is still great. It isn’t the Grateful and they’re not trying to be. Sorry you can’t enjoy the music anymore. But fans still love it. The Broomfield shows were the best I’ve seen in a while. From the number of people dancing and singing, I’m guessing I’m not the only person who loved the shows. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. The music lives on. Jerry’s spirit was alive and well in Broomfield and it lives on through, Phil, Bob, Furthur and every band “latching on to any sliver of Jerry’s creation.” Your negativism isn’t needed here.

Blows Furthur out of the water. Phuck Phake Jerry.

Wow. That’s just freakin amazing looking. Super jealous of those in attendance.

you"re an idiot February 21, 2012, 02:59:51

Go to hell Charles Brown. you’ve clearly not gotten the point of the music you listen to.. You’re an idiot. If you don’t like John then don’t go see him I think Bobby and Phil know a little more about the music and who they feel like playing it with than you do. Jerry isn’t coming back, john doesn’t profess to be the second coming, he just goes out and plays a hell of a show and pays his respects. If he’s good enough for Phil and Bobby then he’s more than good enough for your phake phan ass

Thank you Phil!! You keep the love alive and the music fresh every single time. I for one appreciate hearing the songs done both ways. Phil and Friends and Furthur both give people a chance to hear the best songs ever in a live environment that won’t ever be the Grateful Dead but at this point doesn’t need to be. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile at people that are too narrow minded to get or enjoy the incredible goodness Phil is putting out there. Thanks again Phil for carrying the torch for us deadheads and keeping things fresh giving us a chance to see talent like Jackie, John Scofield and Larry Campbell. I will see as many Phil shows as possible always. Never been disappointed yet. Always Grateful Wally

Music Never Stops... February 21, 2012, 10:19:52

THANK YOU PHIL & FRIENDS!! Just absolutely fantastic playing from everyone. 5 people back from the stage and dead center all 3 nights. Couldn’t have hoped for a better run. And for those that are so jaded or elitist as to say anything post-Jerry is junk, anyone playing Dead tunes are just hacks and wannabees, or whatever other negative comments regarding the continuing of this great music, I say the message has clearly been lost on you. I was too young to see the real Grateful Dead, but was fortunate enough to be raised by a Bay Area native who did on uncountable occasions, and has listened to them daily for as long as I can remember. Shows like this are the only chance I have to experience and enjoy the music my dad loves so much and raised me on, and this trip with him for this run was unforgettable. You need to stop grasping onto yesteryear and open your ears to the music, because regardless of the commercialism that unfortunately has “tainted the legacy”, Jerry was about the music, always. He is nowhere near rolling in his grave, as some say. I’d be shocked if he was anything but grinning ear to ear and floating on cloud nine watching down on his friends keeping the music and message alive. The Music NEVER stops….

Mr. Mind February 25, 2012, 01:55:34

I only saw the third show. Great musicians doing great songs. Perfect venue…CO is so accomodating to the “Head”.
