Vernon Reid, lead guitarist of popular 1990’s heavy rock band Living Colour, will continue his weekend residency tonight and tomorrow at New York’s Dixon Place. For his newest project, ‘Artificial Afrika,’ Reid is joined by DJ Leon Lambert and the multi-talented hip-hop artist Akim Funk Buddha. The band’s show is equal parts music, dance, spoken word poetry and theater. In addition to composing new music for ‘Artificial Afrika,’ Reid created a film of digitally manipulated thought-provoking images, which was projected on the back wall above the band. Using a range of artistic styles, Reid explores race and identity, and questions western media representations of Africa and African culture.

Watch Vernon Reid discuss the ‘Artificial Afrika’ project in the video below.
