Butch Trucks will join Great Caesar’s Ghost while in New York for The Allman Brothers Band’s annual Beacon Theatre run. The Allman Brothers Band drummer will sit in with the improvisational rock group at East Hampton, NY’s The John Drew Theater at Guild Hall on Friday, March 23. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Great Caesar’s Ghost guitarist Ray Penney, who is battling a rare form of leukemia. Andy Aledort—who has worked with Band of Gypsies, Double Trouble and Carlos Santana—will sub for Penney throughout the show while Delta Blues Master Toby Walker will open the benefit. Additional guests are expected.

Trucks performed with the group this past August and Great Caesar’s Ghost recently released the performance as Live with Butch Trucks. The two-disc live album includes ABB classics like “Hot Lanta,” “Blue Sky,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “Whipping Post” as well as Dead chestnuts like “Scarlet Begonias” and “Betha.”
