As previously reported, R.E.M., Brute (Widespread Panic featuring Vic Chesnutt), The Whigs, Patterson Hood, Dead Confederate, Futurebirds and many other Athens, GA-based artists recently contributed songs to a benefit album that will support disabled veterans. On April 10, several Athens musicians will raise additional funds for the cause during a performance at the college town’s recently reopened Georgia Theatre. Billed as Punk Rock Lobsterz, the evening’s house band will bring together members of Dead Confederate, Futurebirds, Kuroma, The Quick Hooks and other special guests for a night of Athens-focused music. The musicians’ setlist will feature covers of local groups such as Drive-By Truckers, The Glands, Star Room Boys, Widespread Panic/Vic Chesnutt, The Whigs, R.E.M. and Drivin’ N’ Cryin’, among others. Additional acts will join the evening’s lineup in the coming weeks.
