Gregg Allman Will Sit Out Tonight

Last evening Gregg Allman departed the stage during the Allman Brothers Band’s penultimate Beacon show of 2012 late in the second set and did not return. A note on the Allman’s homepage explained, “Gregg Allman has bulging discs in his back that are normally under control. Last night, he had a painful flare up 30 minutes before the end of the second set at the Beacon, which forced him to leave the stage.” Now the word is that he is not feeling well enough to perform tonight and will miss the band’s closing night. Warren Haynes confirmed Allman’s absence at the start of this evening’s show. Gregg Allman and Friends keyboardist Bruce Katz will fill in on organ while Haynes will supply lead vocals.

From what I keep reading and the footage I’ve seen- this year’s run probably shouldn’t have happened at all. The whole band are clearly trying hard, but Gregg is just not in the condition to be playing live. Hopefully he takes it easy and rests a while.

The ABB were lucky Gregg was able to make it through nine shows this year. At the two I attended you could tell Gregg was not well by his weak vocals and the way he moved around. Rest and get healthy again Gregg. There is no ABB without you.
