The Allman Brothers returned to New York’s Beacon Theatre last night for the penultimate night of this year’s residency. The group kicked off the evening with their classic rendition of Elmore James’ “Done Somebody Wrong,” before moving into “Leave My Blues at Home.” Midway through the set, Gregg Allman & Friends keyboardist Bruce Katz and longtime ABB harp contributor Jimmy Hall joined the Brothers on the blues standard “Good Morning Little School Girl,” and stuck around for both “Commit a Crime” and Taj Mahal’s “She Caught the Katy.”

For last night’s acoustic segment, the Allmans opened with “Old Friend,” off 2003’s Hittin’ The Note , before moving into the soul hit “Dark End of the Street” and Neil Young’s “Needle and the Damage Done.” Though Gregg Allman remained on acoustic guitar, the rest of the band then plugged in for the Eat a Peach classic “Melissa.”

Allman then returned to the organ as Blues Traveler frontman John Popper and Gregg Allman & Friends guitarist Scott Sharrard took the stage for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Down Along the Cove.” The group and Popper then moved into the Grateful Dead’s “Franklin’s Tower,” with Dark Star Orchestra/Phil & Friends keyboardist Rob Barraco filling in for Gregg Allman and ABB drum tech. James van de Bogert joining in on percussion. Allman—who has faced numerous health issues since his recent liver transplant—did not return to the stage for the remainder of the show. The group continued on without acknowledging Allman’s absence and utilized Popper, Barraco and second bassist Alvaro Benavides on a lengthy version of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

For the encore, Barraco, Jimmy Hall and James van de Bogert returned to the stage to help close out the show with “Southbound.” Hall and Warren Haynes shared lead vocals on the song, which Allman traditionally sings in concert.
