New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band will celebrate the release of their new album Twenty Dozen with a special hometown show at The Temple on April 28. The performance is part of the 2012 Backbeat Jazzfest Series, which coincides with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festival. Billed as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s 35th Anniversary Family Reunion, the evening will also celebrate the brass band’s milestone anniversary with a range of special guests, including some past members of the ensemble. Big Sam’s Funky Nation—a rising brass band led by Dirty Dozen alum Big Sam Williams—will also open the night. This will be BSFN’s only public show the first weekend of Jazz Fest. Twenty Dozen is slated for release on May 1.
