About a year after Yankee Hotel Foxtrot came out I ran into Tweedy at the neighborhood Leona’s pizzeria. We were both waiting for our take out. Before I continue, Tweedy picking up take out for his family is a testament to his grounded personality. Anyway, we engaged in small talk, mainly about our families. Before we parted ways I asked if he had ever heard Nickel Creek perform Reservations, from Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. He said no and hadn’t even heard of the group. As any Nickel Creek or Punch Brother fan knows, Chris Thile is a huge Wilco fan and arranged Reservations for Nickel Creek to pay homage to an incredibly written and produced album. Nearly 10 years after our run in, I’m glad to hear Chris Thile will be sharing the stage, albeit with the Punch Brothers, with Wilco. 2 more things – (1) While I love Punch Brothers, could Nickel Creek please get back together sometime SOON? (2) How cool would it be if Thile and Nels Cline traded licks during Wilco’s set!
