Lynyrd Skynyrd will release their first studio album since 2009, Last Of A Dying Breed, on August 21 via Loud & Proud/Roadrunner. The southern rock icons have also officially added founding Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt to their lineup. Colt replaces Robert Kearns, who has performed with Skynyrd since 2009. Kearns was also a member of Bottle Rockets and is a longtime friend of Warren Haynes.

Last Of A Dying Breed reunites the band with producer Bob Marlette, who helmed 2009’s God & Guns.

“It was great to get back in the studio with Bob for this new album,” says guitarist Rossington in a statement. “we kind of went back old school this time. All of us playing together in the studio as a band, tracking songs and creating licks. We had a lot of fun and the music really flowed for us, so that’s when you know you are on to something good. We can’t wait to let the fans hear these songs and play ‘em live.”

In addition to original guitarist Rossington, the band’s current lineup includes Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone. The current band’s lineup is filled out by Mark “Sparky” Matejka (guitar), Peter Keys (keyboards), Dale Krantz Rossington (backing vocals) and Carol Chase (backing vocals)

Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform at Baltimore, MD’s Pier Six Concert Pavilion on Friday. As previously reported, they will also play a few shows with The Allman Brothers Band later this summer.
