The Neville Brothers, Ani DiFranco, Trombone Shorty and More Join Dumpstaphunk

Photos by Dino Perrucci

Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk brought Tipitina’s JazzFest celebration to a close last night with an extended two-set performance. The show doubled as an unofficial post party for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest itself and featured numerous guest appearance. During their first set, all four members of the Neville Brothers—Art, Aaron, Charles and Cyril—sat in for a mini-set of Neville Brothers classics. The Neville Brothers—who headlined the Fairgrounds earlier in the day—only have select shows scheduled this year while they work on their individual projects.

The sit-ins continued second set. New Orleans residents Ani DiFranco and Trombone Shorty both sat in with Neville and company while Skerik played saxophone on some songs. Dumpstaphunk will perform at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on May 19.

Great show; so glad I was there (and took pictures). the Neville Brothers are pretty much done as a group, once they finish up dates already on their calender, which is why this year was a “can’t miss” at Jazzfest.
