Almost 50 years after the Grateful Dead started playing show sin shadow of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, percussionist Mickey Hart will turn the cultural landmark into an instrument itself. According to The San Francisco Chronicle, in honor of Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary, Hart will use the bridge as the equivalent of a giant “wind harp.” He article says he will record “the sounds of the bridge moving, as captured with devices posted all over the span, inside its structures and out, as the basis for music.” Additional drummers will perform along with the giant instrument. The San Francisco Chronicle also states that Hart was stopped by cops twice in the Dead’s early days while he tried to record the bridge’s sounds.
