Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts Chase Johnny Rotten

Last night, Gregg Allman made his first appearance on the TBS talk show Conan. Instead of performing an Allman Brothers Band classic or a song from his solo career, Allman sat with Conan O’Brien for a spirited, soft spoken discussion. Those stories included the time Allman and Dickey Betts tried to track down Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten—who had insulted the Allman Brothers Band—and how he originally laughed at Jimmy Carter’s presidential bid. A clip of the interview can be found above or in a larger form on An excerpt from Allman’s new memoir My Cross to Bear will also be included in the July issue of Relix.

I do like Conan but much more of a Gregg Allman fan. I thought Conan could have done a better interview with Gregg.

i thought conan tried his best but gregg was giving him nothing to work with. I don’t think he is a very captivating person…

Gregg is getting old and restless. He was talking very slow and Conan had to keep talking in order to keep the entertainment high for such a short segment. If they had more time like say 20 mins then the interview could have had Gregg talking more, but its cable tv and you have to entertain the general public.

Every interview I’ve ever heard with Gregg Allman has straight out sucked. The guy just doesn’t communicate verbally very well. His book was a nice surprise, but I’d bet that was due to the efforts of his co-writer. Great singer, terrible speaker.

Gregg Allman: one of the coolest dudes ever, who cares if his talk show interviews are lame or not? Johnny Rotten is lucky he didn’t get karate chopped by Dickey Betts.

“Johnny Rotten is lucky he didn’t get karate chopped by Dickey Betts.” True… Just ask Dickey’s wife! (DUCKS)
