Mountain Jam to Host Gov’t Mule’s Tribute Ramble featuring The Levon Helm Band
Mountain Jam has added a special set to its schedule. On Saturday, June 2, the festival will host Gov’t Mule’s Tribute Ramble featuring The Levon Helm Band. During their second set on Saturday night, Gov’t Mule will be joined by the full Levon Helm Band, including Amy Helm, Larry Campbell, Teresa William and the LHB Horns, among others. The set will feature music from Levon’s 50-plus year career.
The eighth annual Mountain Jam Festival will return to Hunter, NY from May 31-June 3. Helm—who lived in the shadow of Hunter, NY—performed at Mountain Jam in 2008 and 2010. The latter show doubled as his all-star 70th birthday celebration.
“Levon was a musical hero of mine,” Warren Haynes said in a statement. “His 70th birthday celebration at Mountain Jam two years ago was a magical night and a truly inspiring musical performance. So bringing back that incredible band to share in our tribute seemed like a great way to honor his memory.”
Billed as Helm’s 70th birthday Jubilee, his 2010 performance features guests like Donald Fagen, Ray LaMontagne, Sam Bush, Steve Earle, Patterson Hood and Jackie Greene among other
“Levon really touched the lives of so many people,” adds Radio Woodstock/Mountain Jam president/owner Gary Chetkof. “He was a larger-than-life figure here in the Hudson Valley, so it’s a true privilege and honor to be able to pay tribute to his life music at a festival so close to his hometown.”
Mountain Jam’s lineup also features Steve Winwood, Michael Franti & Spearhead, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Roots, Ben Folds Five, The Word (ft. Robert Randolph, John Medeski, and the North Mississippi Allstars) and James Murphy DJ Set (of LCD Soundsystem), among others. Helm’s Woodstock, NY studio will host an additional tribute concert this Saturday.
