GoogaMooga Offers Extra Mooga Refunds

The promoters of this weekend’s Great GoogaMooga Festival are now offering refunds to attendees who purchased the Extra Mooga VIP tickets. This news comes following reports of food shortages and excessive lines during the festival’s opening day on Saturday. As a statement posted to the festival’s website reads:

Dear Friend:

We promised you a terrific Extra Mooga experience this past weekend and we didn’t deliver, particularly in providing an adequate amount of food and beverage on Saturday. We’re very sorry if we disappointed you.

To officially extend our apology, we’re offering you a 100% refund of your Extra Mooga ticket price, including handling fees.

If you’d like a refund, please email your request within 30 days to refunds@googamooga.com. Make sure to include the email address you used to make your initial purchase. You’ll receive a refund to the credit card you used for your purchase within approximately 10-14 days of the date of your request. We’ll inform you by email when your refund has been processed.

If you paid in cash, please email us from the address you gave us when you purchased your ticket and give us a mailing address for your refund check.

When developing The Great GoogaMooga, we envisioned Extra Mooga as an outstanding all-inclusive, premium experience, with top-tier programming and lots of great food and drink. We were also excited to shine the spotlight on this magical part of Prospect Park, one of the City’s great treasures.

Our intentions were good, but our execution came up short in several areas. As we continue to evaluate what went wrong, your feedback is important to us. We’ve set up a special address for your comments—ExtraMoogaFeedback@googamooga.com

At Superfly Presents and GoogaMooga, we pride ourselves in creating great experiences—and exceeding expectations—and we sincerely hate to disappoint and under-deliver. We’re in this for the long haul and are committed to building a great, iconic food festival for New York. We hope you’ll look past this year’s mistakes and join us at next year’s Great GoogaMooga festival.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Mayers, Rick Farman, Rich Goodstone & Kerry Black
Co-Founders, Superfly Presents & GoogaMooga

Peter Shapiro
Co-Founder, GoogaMooga

PS: We promised a portion of each paid ticket would go to support the Prospect Park Alliance. Although we will refund your purchase price in full, rest assured that we are still following through and making the donation to the Alliance.

You can buy lobsterrolls in brooklyn without Googa Mooga or maybe you didnt know that? ANd it wouldnt be sillyness to you if you paid and got robbed right?

Brooklyn person May 23, 2012, 13:40:34

I am so glad these idiots failed! I just hope they arent allowed back next year. Prospect Park doesnt need a food festival. There enough places all over the neighborhood and there are enough scam artists on the Flatbush side of the park, we dont need “Superfly” AT ALL. Go back to Tenn losers!

Interesting that conveniently left out is the fact that promoter Peter Shapiro also happens to be Relix and Jambands.com publisher, and owner of Brooklyn Bowl. Hmmm, now WHY would they want to leave out THAT little tidbit???

KB May 23, 2012, 13:57:53

You two are maniacs. Someone who roots for entrepenuars and philanthropists to fail, sucks. They could not have been more humble. This move to rectifiy the situation is class. Rarely will you ever find an outfit that would do more to make things right. The fact that Shapiro is affiliated with jambands is irrelevant. Go find a different website to harass, seriously.

I did NOT attend the fest, but had several friends there. And yes the feedback was consistent “has lots of potential, but really need to iron out the kinks”. And thats fair. I think offering the refunds to the VIP ticketholders is a smart thing to do. Well done, & don’t listen to the haters, they will hate no matter what.

Brooklyn Person May 23, 2012, 14:32:55

“Someone who roots for entrepenuars and philanthropists to fail, sucks.” You need a dictionary KB. It’s “entrepreneurs”. And someone who kicks back cash after using a public space for a commercial event is not a philanthropist by any stretch of the imagination. They are called “renters”.
And we aren’t rooting for them to fail. THEY ALREADY FAILED. BIG TIME. And what you call “make things right” is actually called restitution before legal suits are filed which believe me, they would be if they haven’t been already.
Maybe it’s people who defend rip-off “premium experiences” that suck even more than those who charge for a “premium experience” and can’t deliver?

Awwwww…..don’t listen to the psycophants…they arent objective and they like having their ear pissed in just like Trey said.

I went on Sunday with my wife, three year old son, and one year old baby girl. We had a wonderful time. Didn’t do extra mooga, just the normal freebie deal. Lines weren’t bad at all, especially the first 3 or 4 hours. I’ve been to tons of festivals, and this was as well run as any I’ve been too. Great sound, lots of great food, plenty of portajohns, easy to get anywhere you wanted – all for free to boot! When I learned what a mess Saturday was, I was shocked, based on Sun I would have assumed Sat was fine too. So it wasn’t, there were some breakdowns, but sure looks like some lessons were learned, and fast too! You rarely see promoters adapt on the fly like that and make such big improvements literally overnight. So to see the silliness on here about Superfly and Pete Shapiro is garbage. Thanks Pete, thanks Superfly, for all you do year after year! For some folks, years of rising to the occasion is negated by one off day. I say forget that, big congrats, and can’t wait to have crawfish monica and lobster rolls at Googa Mooga next year!

This is so cool that they’re doing this! I didn’t buy Extra Googa tickets, but it’s pretty neat that they’re admitting that they didn’t accomplish what they had hoped, and doing something about it to make people happy. Nice job!

Brooklyn person May 23, 2012, 16:00:29

...“but it’s pretty neat that they’re admitting that they didn’t accomplish what they had hoped” LMFAO! This isn’t about making people “happy” you hippy loser. This is NYC. I bet the Department of Consumer Affairs is already on their case about the fraud. Not too mention all the credit card purchases already placed on hold because the customers complained about being RIPPED OFF. Am I right Pete Shapiro?

Brooklyn… so your link mentions that at least one local eatery benefited tremendously… At least the Tennessee losers put some money in local pockets, so quit whining and insulting… it’s one thing to be against a private money maker in a public park funded by tax payers, but your comments have gone well past that… While those eateries may sell lobster rolls every day of the week, how many of those days to you have that large of a crowd? Seems to me that is a pretty good way to advertise what’s there and end up with some return customers that you otherwise wouldn’t have. While I’m no fan of Superfly, or Bonnaroo, they are some of the more “above board” people in the scene… regardless… hippie loser>brooklyn douchebag any day of the week… Can’t help but think you have more of a stake in this issue than being upset about a private festival in a public park…

boogie May 23, 2012, 19:15:41

Superfly is actually based in NYC and have brought festivals like Outside Lands, NOLA Jazzfest and Roo to life… along with multiple other partners on these things To the people who dont’ get it – put on your own massive festival and let the majority of the folks in for free. See how it goes your first year – and report back then.

“The fact that Shapiro is affiliated with jambands is irrelevant. Go find a different website to harass, seriously.”
Just how is it NOT relevant that the publisher of this very “news” website was affiliated with this festival and this very article. It’s called ‘full disclosure’ you muttonhead, and while this clearly isn’t the NYT, WSJ or even Fox News, it’s called being forthright, honest and having respect for your readership. Not that you’d understand such concepts. But If you can’t identify a clear conflict of interest here, you really are a dope…and that’s a term I’m sure you DO understand.

Superfly is the Walmart of festivals.

KB May 24, 2012, 11:56:04

First of all, Superfly and especially Peter Shapiro have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities over the last several decades, therefor, they are philanthropists and all around good guys. If you don’t believe me, watch the documentary about the Wetlands. Pay attention to what Peter has done for our community, or at least my community, that I love so dearly. Just a few weeks ago, they opened the Brooklyn Bowl and played The Last Waltz for free to bring people together that loved that music and to honor Levon’s memory…but I’m sure you will turn that into some evil plot motivated by devils to take over the world. Buffedled, you can call me all the names you want, but it doesn’t change anything. This website wasn’t posting glowing reviews of the festival. They didn’t have to report that Shapiro is connected to this website, what difference does it make? They were reporting on the story of refunds, but again, that’s some evil story that points to some larger conspiracy, I’m sure. Brooklyn Person, you should just sit in your apartment and criticize everything that goes on around in your awesome city. Don’t ever get involved and just lay blame. Go occupy wallstreet, or pet one of your 400 cats, or go jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, you Brooklyn Douche.

Befuddled May 24, 2012, 17:24:43

KB, I appreciate your perspective and your passionate defense of such, and perhaps my name calling was over the top — for that I apologize — but I do think there is a de facto responsibility for this or any other “news” site to make clear any connections it has with anything it “reports” on. The lines are too easily blurred these days between artist, promoter, reporter, etc and its unfair to readers to not be above board and acknowledge these relationships. It’s just good form. Perhaps I’m too much of a journalistic curmudgeon, but when Jambands does glowing reviews of Brooklyn Bowl events, it should also site the relationship it has with the venue. That’s all. It’s simply the right thing to do. And I have NOTHING against Peter (he’s a champ in my book), my issue was with the reportage.

KB May 25, 2012, 12:28:31

Befuddled, that’s fair enough. I guess I figured I’m like most, I read this site all of the time and just know the connection. I also give Peter the benefit of the doubt. It also kind of gets under my skin how negative and nit picking that goes on around here. But, I’d buy you a beer if I was in NYC. KB

Befuddled May 25, 2012, 19:49:33

KB:
Heh heh, if a beer offer is on the table, I’m in…first round’s on me ;-) And I hear ya about all the negativity and nitpicking here, but I must confess to adding to it on occasion. I guess we are all so serious about our music, it comes out in our comments. But a healthy dose of perspective should also be taken sometimes, and I’m as guilty as anyone here. But then someone comes along with valid, passionate comments like yours and, well, I find there’s hope for the scene yet…

KB May 29, 2012, 13:37:49

Befuddled…thanks man. I used to take all the music too seriously too. I jumped on the Widespread bus in 1996 and had the blinders on pretty badly. Once Mike passed away and I got some distance from it, I realized, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It also seemed that all of the various scenes had such a negative element to them (while still have some unbelievably positve influences) which goes against the very nature of the whole reason we love music and the scene and each other. Glad we worked it out, now hug me damn it. :-}
