Umphrey’s McGee to Perform Extended Late-Night Set Bonnaroo

On the heels of their latest release Death By Stereo, Umphrey’s McGee will play their seventh show at Bonnaroo this evening when they perform a late night set in This Tent. Not only has Umphrey’s McGee played Bonnaroo more than almost any other act, but this will be the group’s third highly coveted late night set at the fest. To mark the occasion, the band has confirmed that they will play a marathon two-set show this evening (technically Saturday morning). They also hint at a “big surprise of gigantic proportions halfway through the set.” During their previous late night sets at Bonnaroo, Umphrey’s McGee welcomed moe. during their set break (2004) and played a selection of Beatles and Pink Floyd covers that segued into the Disco Biscuits’ performance.

Phish sitting in. Calling it, needs to happen.

Eric June 8, 2012, 10:48:51

TM..Listen carefully..That will NEVER happen.

Rymad June 8, 2012, 11:03:07

That SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN

Dominic Lalli makes more sense. “Big” surprise of “gigantic” proportions.

I don’t see that sit-in happening with Phish in Worcester tonight.

Hey Tim, check your facts… Gordon already sat in with UM on Pony’s birthday. Don’t be so quick to jump to dumb assumptions.

Mike sat in with UM. Trey and Brendan spent some quality time together on the bus back in 2006, with Trey telling Brendan, “Everyone tells me you guys are the next in line,” etc. Page mentioned UM in a recent interview. The Phish sit-ins with UM aren’t over yet. Idiots.

if phish can make it from MA to TN in 3 hours i dont see why not

Definitely going to be Dominic from Big Gigantic. Maybe “Booth Love” like at the Fillmore in Denver.

I realy fail to see how a band that is playing smaller now than they did in 09 is the next big thing. Playing at Martyrs, a bar that holds maybe 250-300, no matter the occasion is not a good sign for any band.

jeff June 8, 2012, 13:13:19

my bet is skrillex plays with them

dwightor June 8, 2012, 14:15:25

@madness, really? that was a private show paid for by there fans. there selling out more venues now than they ever have, and bigger ones at that

lolMadness June 8, 2012, 14:17:09

Madness, clearly you haven’t the slightest clue what you’re talking about. UM is selling out bigger venues than the past. They’re playing bigger venues than 09 for sure. That Martyr’s show you’re citing as an example? That was a private show put on by 250 die-hard fans who funded it. Where else would UM play a private show for 250 people? The Aragon? That would be a bit too spacious. Stick to talking about what you know, because it clearly isn’t Umphrey’s McGee.

The played Martyrs
A. for charity
B. for their hardcore fans The last time they played there prior was over a decade ago. They have also sold out most of their dates this year.

derp June 8, 2012, 14:20:32

madness the martyrs show was a private show for 250. your way off about them being smaller than they were in 2009… not saying they will be the new thing but they are not on a down hill slump at all by any means. derp

Kodiakfloyd June 8, 2012, 14:25:05

Echoes still has not been played. The Phish and UM are two bands that are must sees at the Roo

madness June 8, 2012, 15:09:16

Your going to go with the fan thing, fine point taken how about the abbey pub? Vince literaly calls people who he is friends with to try to unload extra various packages that do not sell at deep discounts. This has been going on for about 2 years. I know this as Ive been the lucky recipient of these calls. They are all great guys, fun band but when they get out of the midwest and play places in the southwest they play to rooms of 100-200 and those arent “special shows”

cy June 9, 2012, 00:12:02

The only way I want to see that UM again is if they bust another run of shows with Joshua Redman. Everything else can just go on doing what it does

boojooce June 11, 2012, 19:25:48

Tell that to the probably 25-30,000 that saw the show. It was thick

JDL June 12, 2012, 13:52:56

Big Gigantic Folks. Come on, it is in the hint.
