On Wednesday, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk played a private show at New York’s Highline Ballroom. The performance was part of book distributor Publishers Group West (PGW)‘s annual BookExpo America party (Past year’s have featured acts like John Wesley Harding and Lee Fields.) The Pimps of Joytime opened the night, and the invite only audience included Chaka Kahn. During Dumpstaphunk’s set, Neville also coaxed Chaka Kahn onstage to sing “You Got the Love” with the band. Chaka Kahn originally recorded the track with Rufus. Dumpstaphunk then made their way down to Bonnaroo for a late night performance where Flea was spotted watching side stage.
