With acts like Lotus, The Roots and the Disco Biscuits hailing from Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly love is quickly becoming a hotbed of live hip-hop and electronic music. This growing scene has inspired a new series of live electronic music events called Popular Science, which will feature a rotating cast of the city’s most progressive electronic musicians. Designed to “foster cross-pollination among the performers and find a home on the East Coast for fans of genre-pushing electronic music,” local mainstays Sonkin and Grimace Federation have stepped up as hosts of the series, which will take up residency at Kung Fu Necktie on Front St. in Philly. The first edition of Popular Science is scheduled for July 18, with Starkey, Dev79 and The Range joining the resident host artists. Other events this summer will feature Sinjin Hawke, Lushlife Damn Right!, Beard-O-Bees (featuring Jesse Miller of Lotus), Sir Charles and more. Tickets are available at kungfunecktie.com.
