Jeff Tweedy will produce Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion’s forthcoming album (Sarah Lee is Woody Guthrie’s granddaughter and Irion is her husband). The project, which is slated for release in 2013, was recorded in Tweedy’s Chicago hometown.

Wilco has a long connection with the Guthrie family. The group worked with several volumes worth of Woody Guthrie songs for the Mermaid Avenue albums in the ‘90s, and Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion recently toured with the Wilco side-project Autumn Defense. The musical couple also regularly cover Wilco’s “Airline to Heaven” live.

Along with the rest of the Guthrie family, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Irion will spend the summer touring as part of the Guthrie Family Reunion. The outing, which includes Sarah Lee’s father Arlo, will kick off at Akron, OH’s Lock 3 Live on July 7.
