Phish Dusts Off "Shaggy Dog" in Cinci

Phish continued their 2012 Summer Tour last night at Cincinnati, OH’s Riverbend Music Center. Once again, the first set featured a major bust-out, in the form of “Shaggy Dog,” which had not been performed since October 29, 1995 (574 shows). The set also saw the return of Traffic’s “Light Up or Leave Me Alone” for the first time since June 14, 2011 (33 shows), as well as “Buffalo Bill” for the first time since August 17, 2011 (17 shows).

Guitarist Trey Anastasio was particularly chatty during the first set, commenting after drummer Jon Fishman botched the start of both “Poor Heart” and “Moma Dance.” He then suggested that the band start a tune that began with drums, proceeding to kick off the fan-favourite “Llama.” Anastasio later quizzed the crowd on lighting director Chris Kuroda’s favorite Phish song, before closing out the set with “David Bowie.”

The second set saw the first “Guelah Payprus” since August 15, 2011, in addition to an improvisational highlight of the tour in the form of a 14-minute “Twist” sound quest. For the encore, the band returned “Fluffhead” to the closing slot for the first time since November 3, 1990 (1,124 shows).

Phish returns to the stage at the First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA tonight.

Here’s a look at the setlist from last night

Set 1: Wolfman’s Brother, Peaches en Regalia, Shaggy Dog, Runaway Jim [1], Light Up Or Leave Me Alone > Wilson > Alaska, Stash, Llama, Buffalo Bill, Saw It Again > David Bowie

Set 2: Down with Disease > Guelah Papyrus, Kill Devil Falls > Twist [2] > Halley’s Comet > Sand -> Roggae, Carini > Chalk Dust Torture, Golgi Apparatus

Encore: Fluffhead

Can someone perhaps, respectfully, explain to me why it is news when Phish plays a song that was last aired less then a year ago? I can understand writing about Shaggy Dog but making a big deal about a song that was last played last tour is silly. At least to me.

Can’t believe no one picked up on Friday’s show honoree…Dogs! It was National Take Your Dog to Work Day… opened with Wolfman, brought Shaggy back, Runaway, Alaska (dog mushing with an eskimo), the only thing missing was a McGrupp.

To add to the superhuman, ahynnitg is possible aura around Apple (and Steve Jobs) When I posted the Onion’s article on my Facebook, I had two friends comment who were convinced that it was from an actual news source, mentioning that Apple would assuredly revolutionize the printing business.Kind of amazing.

Nice images. Although my dfeualt when I see a guy with a mustache is “Porn star or cop, which one is he?” And can we please get rid of the hipster’s fascination with Civil War era beards? GAH!
