San Francisco’s New Monsoon have announced plans for Garyfest, a special three-night event to be held October 19-21 in Houston celebrating the life of their friend and manager Gary Hartman. A longtime taper, Deadhead and Houston concert promoter, Hartman first heard New Monsoon in 2003, booking them for yearly stands at the Last Concert Café before signing on as their manager in 2008. Sadly, Gary unexpectedly passed away on March 31, 2012, prompting his friends to organize a musical tribute to his memory.

The run will feature three nights of New Monsoon, including a reunion set with the group’s original trio of percussionists and an unplugged show at an intimate venue called “The Lounge” on the last night of the fest. Native Houstonian rockers The Hightailers and Moses Guest will join the hosts at the Last Concert Café on the festival’s first and second nights respectively. Tickets are on sale now, with discounted two and three-night packages available for a limited time.
