In addition to guest appearances with Umphrey’s McGee on July 5 in Peoria, IL and August 12 at moedown., the band has now announced that guitar guru Stanley Jordan will join the band on August 9 at sUMmer school in Big Indian, NY. At sUMmer school, Jordan will participate in a master class workshop, conduct a session of his own, in addition to performing as a special guest at the closing concert that evening.

“I have been in love with the guitar since I first started playing at age 14,” says Umphrey’s guitarist Brendan Bayliss. “When I first heard Stanley Jordan I was 16, and it took my appreciation for the guitar to an entirely different level. Now, almost 20 years later, not only do I get to play with my favorite musician on the planet, I get to sit down and learn directly from the master himself. I simply cannot express in words how truly excited I am that Stanley Jordan is going to join all of us at sUMmer school.”

Umphrey’s McGee kicks off their Summer Tour tomorrow at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, VA. Watch a video of Umphrey’s performing “40s Theme” with Jordan below.
