A previous run through “Esau”

Furthur is two nights into a run of shows at Phil Lesh’s new San Rafael, CA venue Terrapin Crossroads. Though these are Furthur’s first shows since Lesh took over the spot, the band actually played a few “rehearsal shows” when the space housed the Seafood Peddler in 2010. Like most of his Phil & Friends shows and Rambles at Terrapin Crossroads, Lesh gave away free grilled cheese from Terrapin Crossroads’ restaurant at the end of the night. On Wednesday, Furthur debuted their cover of Bob Dylan’s “ It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” at the end of their set. Last night, Furthur also performed two songs they introduced into their repertoire this spring. First, the group moved into the Grateful Dead’s “My Brother Esau,” which Bob Weir revived for a performance with members of The National in March, and then the band performed Bob Dylan’s “Most of the Time,” which the group introduced in April. In addition, during their first set Furthur debuted the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter ’80s tune “When Push Comes To Shove.” The number fell out of the Dead’s rotation in the late ’80s and has not returned in the years since.

As previously reported, Weir will also open for Dylan in September.

Furthur will return to Terrapin Crossroads this evening.
