An esteemed list of musicians will team up with the legendary Joshua Light Show for a series of performances at the NYU Skirball Center in September. Each night will see the visual artists paired with a different set of musicians.
The performance series kicks off on September 13 with the pairing of percussionist Evelyn Glennie with experimental harpist Zeena Parkins. The following night hosts two performances—the first featuring minimal composer Terry Riley with guitarist Gyan Riley, while the second pairs some of the biggest names from the avant-garde scene including John Zorn, Lou Reed, Bill Laswell and Milford Graves. The series closes on September 15 with Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT. The full schedule is listed below.
The Joshua Light Show, founded by multimedia artist Joshua White, served as resident artists at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East during the late 1960’s. The band has provided psychedelic projections for bands including the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Who.
