The String Cheese Incident played the first of three shows at their North, Plains, OR Horning’s Hideout event last night. In addition to a full two-set String Cheese Incident show, Friday’s lineup also featured Toots & the Maytals, Ivan’s Neville Dumpstaphunk, SCI guitarist Bill Nershi’s Honkytonk Homeslice, The Motet, Poor Man’s Whiskey and many others.

In addition, String Cheese Incident shared the stage with a few guests during their headlining performance. Partway through their first set, SCI invited out all of Dumpstaphunk for the New Orleans anthem “Hey Pocky Way” (the band’s first take on the song since their last Horning’s Hideout run in 2010). During their encore, the members of String Cheese also invited out jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan for both Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” and “Restless Wind.” Jordan—whose summer sit in spree has included guest spots with Umphrey’s McGee, Phil Lesh and Dave Matthews Band—joined String Cheese Incident in Flagstaff, AZ on July 12 as well. The show also included String Cheese Incident’s first cover of Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride” since 2007.

The String Cheese Incident will play another show at Horning’s Hideout this evening.
