Phil Lesh Rambles with New and Old Friends

Phil Lesh kicked off another series of Rambles at his San Rafael, CA venue Terrapin Crossroads last night. The bassist’s band included Ryan Adams & the Cardinals/Chris Robinson Brotherhood guitarist Neal Casal, Furthur guitarist John Kadlecik, Chris Robinson Brotherhood/Black Crowes keyboardist Adam MacDougall, Furthur drummer Joe Russo and guitarist—and newly appointed sit in king—Stanley Jordan.

The ensemble opened their two-set show with George Harrison’s “Any Road’ andGrateful Dead originals and Dead-family covers. Like most of his Phil & Friends shows, Lesh started his second set with a freeform jam. The improvisation then moved into “Scarlet Begonias,” “Here Comes Sunshine,” “The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)” and, finally, “Magnolia Mountain” (a Cardinals song Lesh has adopted in recent years).

Later on, Jordan offered a take on “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” while the group tackled Stephen Stills “Love The One You’re With” and “Mountain Jam.”

Lesh will host another Ramble this evening.

As the paper (Times-Tribune) said, Mr. McGrath earned an anaunl salary of $56,427 in 2009, the most recent year available Tuesday night, plus an hourly fee for some legal work. In 2008, his salary and hourly earnings totaled more than $135,000. Isn’t that what was happening at Lackawanna County Prison. Officer made $40,000 but pulled in $60,000 in overtime. If McGrath’s salary was the same in ’08 and ’09 $56,427 was he approved automatically without council knowledge of the hourly wage of $78,573? If not he had an open checkbook. He was appointed in 1994, received district health insurance benefits and never had a contract. Say he had a low salary of $40,000 and not count hourly wage.$40,000 × 10 years = $400,000 and that’s not including his actual salary, hourly wage, extra years + health insurance (was it the same as the teachers?)I only know McGrath as the Lackawanna Democratic Party head, not a Scranton citizen, but it sounds like he made millions off the school district without any competition for the job.As always with Lackawanna County politics and those within it, the question is What took so long?He had a sweet gig going along with his law practice. Can’t say I blame him though (unless he did something bad), but SSD continued to pay him a lot. With a deal like that wouldn’t you take it?
