The Capitol Theatre 1926

Umphrey’s McGee will be one of the band’s gracing the soon-to-be reopened Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY with their presence this fall. The appearance, set to take place on October 17, was confirmed by Umphrey’s keyboardist Joel Cummins during the group’s performance at the inaugrual Catalpa Festival in New York City on Saturday. Umphrey’s join Strangefolk as the only confirmed acts set to play the iconic venue. As previously reported, the original Strangefolk lineup will return to the Capitol Theatre this Thanksgiving.

The Capitol Theatre is set to officially reopen in September. September. The classic venue hosted performances by the likes of Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, the Grateful Dead and Santana in the ’70s and had a second life as the home to jambands like Phish, Aquarium Rescue Unit, moe., Blues Traveler and others in the ’90s. The club’s last major public show was performed by Strangefolk in ’98. As previously reported, Relix/Jambands.com publisher and Brooklyn Bowl founder Peter Shapiro is the driving force behind the recently renovated theater. Though the Cap has not confirmed its opening lineup, Shapiro has stated that the venue will honor its past and include a mix of current jam, rock, indie, hip-hop and electronic artists.
