Phil Lesh’s Pre-Hoedown Hoedown

Phil Lesh hosted a free Pre-Hoedown show last night. The last minute performance took place in the bar space at Lesh’s San Rafael, CA club Terrapin Crossroads. In addition to Lesh on bass, the band featured Ryan Adams & the Cardinals pedal steel player Jon Graboff, Ollabelle multi-instrumentalist Tony Leone and Hot Buttered Rum fiddler/guitarist Aaron Redner. The group offered a mix of originals and covers. Of particular note, the group offered their take on Junior Parker’s “Mystery Train,” Monroe Brothers’ “Rosa Lee Mcfall,” the classic ballad “Long Black Veil,” The Band’s “The Weight” and Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.” Graboff, Leone, Redner, guitarist Ross James and Lesh’s son Grahame will perform with the Grateful Dead bassist at Terrapin Crossroads this evening. Billed as a Hoedown, the show will likely feature a similar mix of roots-oriented material.
