Lynyrd Skynyrd To Perform Benefit Show Outside Republican Nat’l Convention

Legendary southern rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd have announced a few shows in support of their upcoming album, Last of a Dyin’ Breed, including a performance within earshot of the Republican National Convention.

The concert will take place on August 26th at The American Action Network Pavilion at Liberty Plaza, about half a mile down the road from the home of the 2012 Republican National Committee at Tampa Times Forum. The show will kick off a series of events set for the weekend of the RNC, including performances by country star Trace Adkins and Kid Rock, the latter of whom sampled “Sweet Home Alabama” on last year’s top-40 hit “All Summer Long.” Skynyrd’s invite-only concert is a part of a benefit for Citizens Helping Heroes, a non-political non-profit dedicated to supporting active members of the military and their immediate relatives.

The band will also perform a free concert on August 17 as a part of Fox’s “All American Concert Series” outside Fox News studios in midtown Manhattan.

Nothing jam bandy about this Skynyrd cover band, so seems weird they get coverage here. Having said that, I always like to know where people stand politically. This announcement, however, shouldn’t come as any surprise given their fan base.

Literally saw this band scream“god hates niggers” over and over again on stage.

Mountain Trout August 13, 2012, 16:14:52

I love Skynyrd and I am not a racist. I do believe Ronny would have had the band playing in Charlotte within earshot of the Democratic National Convention. LONG LIVE SOUTHERN ROCK!!

Saw these guys open for the Allman Brothers Band about two weeks ago. I was there to see The Allmans, but Skynyrd sounded great, just sayin’...

The original Skynyrd could blow the Grateful Dead off the stage on Jerry’s best night EVER.

“paraphrasing? stream of conscience?”
///// LOL Got any more excuses?

jim August 15, 2012, 03:47:00

Back on topic.. ANY band can have racist band members. I’m not concerned about their personal lives. Skynyrd (‘70s) has ZERO racist songs. Sweet H/A is ambiguous, at best.

cocheese August 15, 2012, 16:32:02

wow! look at all the hate and sterotyping coming from the side that is so open and accepting of all people. Liberals seem like such enlighted people, until they open their mouths. I wonder why Jambands chose to report this non news about a band that most of it’s readers aren’t big fans of in the first place. I also wonder why they chose to post about the DBT backing out of a gig loosely associated with the RNC. Way to drive that wedge Jambands.com, drive it in there real good.
