Phil Lesh and Friends continued the Terrapin Hoedown at Lesh’s San Rafael, CA venue, Terrapin Crossroads. On Friday, Lesh was once again joined by Jon Graboff, Tony Leone, Mark Karan, Ross James, and son Grahame Lesh. In addition to the originally announced band, Hot Buttered Rum fiddle player Aaron Redner performed on both nights and noted banjo player Boo Reiners stopped in to sit on several tunes throughout the night. The band moved through Grateful Dead classics such as “Scarlet Begonias,” “Fire on the Mountain,” and “Viola Lee Blues,” as well as takes on Bob Dylan/The Band’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and Dylan’s “Going, Going, Gone.” The second night of the four-night Hoedown closed with Lesh’s “Donor Rap.”
The Saturday night show featured a similar lineup, this time with Furthur keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joining the band. Much like the Friday night edition, Saturday featured an emphasis on Grateful Dead tunes, with “Shakedown Street” and “Friend of the Devil” opening up the show. Also featured was “Alabama Getaway,” “New Speedway Boogie,” and “Bird Song.” “Deal” featured drummer Tony Leone on vocals, as did “Alabama Getaway.” Covers ruled the night yet again with Willie Nelson’s “Whiskey River” and Doc Watson’s “Peach-Pickin’ Down in Georgia” making the setlist as well. The classic “And We Bid You Goodnight” featured everybody on vocals, and ended the night in typical Phil Lesh style.
