?uestlove Announces Relaunch Of Okayplayer Records

The Roots drummer ?uestlove has just announced that his alternative hip-hop label Okayplayer Records is returning for business. The now digital-only label is making its comeback with new releases from Atlanta based producers/emcees Danny! and Young Guru.

Okayplayer was founded as a musical collective in 1987 and eventually developed into an online community in ’99. The spin-off record label came in 2004 with the release of a compilation album, True Notes Vol. 1, but then promptly became dormant, until now.

“I’ve been waiting years for the right moment to re-launch the label and I’m eager to kick things off with Danny!” says ?uestlove. President of the record label Daniel Petruzzi adds, “Not only does Danny!‘s sound and lyrical content match our aesthetic, but his DIY approach to production, promotion, artwork and branding make him an ideal candidate to partner with.”

Danny!‘s LP Payback is slated for release on September 25, while Young Guru’s all-instrumental LP, Essentials Vol. 1, will be released October 9.
