The National have announced on Twitter that they will support President Barack Obama as the incumbent heads into the final few months of this year’s election cycle. They group will perform before Obama when he speaks in Des Moines, IA on Saturday, September 1. The members of The National designed “Mr. November” shirts to support Obama in 2008, and Obama used their song “Fake Empire” for his campaign. In the past 12 months, the members of The National have performed with both Bob Weir and Trey Anastasio.
