During The Mother Hips’ 2003-2004 hiatus, band co-founder
Greg Loiacono formed the power trio Sensations. Since The Mother Hips have returned, Loiacono has moved Sensations to the back burner. But this fall Loiacono will form a new version of the trio for a few shows.

The reconfigured group will feature Loiacono on guitar and vocals, Tea Leaf Green’s Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green, Marco Benevento) on bass/backing vocal and ALOs’ Dave Brogan on drums. The trio’s first show will take place at San Francisco’s
Brick on September 5. The group also hints that they will play a second show in Chico, CA in mid-October.

In other news, Loiacono’s Tam Family will perform at Fairfax, CA’s The Sleeping Lady on September 29. That ensemble includes Scott Carter Thunes, (Mother Hips, Frank Zappa) Jeff Miller (New Monsoon) and Kenny Blacklock, as well as other special guests. According to the band, Tam Family will be a musical ensemble with “a rotating cast of local agents of shred.”
