Last night Umphrey’s McGee performed two sets at the Congress Theater in group’s hometown of Chicago. Lighting designer Jeff Waful was clearly amped for the gig, tweeting a few hours before the band took the stage, “Very excited for a big indoor light show tonight. Gonna step it up a notch.” Waful lived up to his promise (see photo above) while the band delivered a corresponding high energy performance. Opening with “The Floor,” Umphrey’s then delivered two notable mid-set segues, moving from “ Wappy Sprayberry” into “Wife Soup” and from “Resolution” into “Booth Love.” The second set closed out a fine fashion with “Hajimemashite” sandwiched within “Conduit” followed by a cover of Toto’s “Roseanna” which led into “Hurt Bird Bath.” Earlier in the set area rappers The Palmer Squares stepped out for “The Plot Thickens,” a remix the duo created for the song “Deeper” from the UM album Death By Stereo. Speaking of guests, in an interview just posted to Jambands.com, Jeff Coffin has confirmed that he will join Umphrey’s on New Year’s Eve at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.
