Addison Groove Project reunited on Saturday night for their first full show since 2007. The show took place at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club, where the band recorded their album Wicked Live II and played their final gig in 2007. The evening featured a selection of songs from all five of AGP’s official releases, as well as a mix of covers and collaborations.

As AGP keyboardist Rob Marscher revealed in a recent site interview, Sam Kininger Band bassist Aaron Bellamy sat in throughout the night, one of the few times the band has played with a bassist since group co-founder John Hall passed away in 2004. Bellamy also played guitar on “Talkin’ Loud,” with Marscher supplying synth bass, while tenor saxophonist Ben Groppe played bass on a cover of David Bowie’s “Fame” (Groppe played bass in the short-lived AGP spinoff Skinger.) The show also marked the first time AGP played “Crullers And Nyquil” off Waiting Room, their lone studio album after Hall’s death, with a bassist.

A number of other old friends joined the group at various points throughout the night, too. AGP lighting designer Wade “Wyllys” Wilby, who came out of LD retirement to run the boards during the show, opened the night and played between AGP sets. At the end of AGP’s first set, he joined the group for a cover of Daft Punk’s “Around The World,” which seamlessly segued into Wyllys’ set. Trumpeter Tom Duprey, who taught AGP singer/guitarist/trumpeter Brendan McGinn, also sat in for four songs. At the start of AGP’s encore, longtime band tour manager Aaron Cohen emerged under his AC Chillin persona to help the band on a cover of Skee-Lo’s “I Wish.” Cohen has joined the band onstage at select shows over the years.

The evening came to a close with one of Addison Groove Project’s earliest numbers, “The Reverend.”
