On Saturday night at Walter Reade Theater, Charlie Is My Darling – Ireland 1965 will premiere as part of the New York Film Festival. The film originated during the band’s trip to Ireland in September 1965. It was commissioned by the group’s then-manager Andrew Loog Oldham and a 35 minute film received a few initial screenings under its original title Charlie Is My Darling. The documentary that will appear at the NYFF and will later open the London Film Festival on October 18 is an expanded version drawn from that the footage, which reportedly includes the group’s first live performance of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” In addition to two slots at the New York Film Festival, on October 5 it will screen at the 92nd Street Y after which Steve Van Zandt will interview Oldham. A DVD release will follow on November 6.
