Phish to Play Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve

Phish will close 2012 with shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden from December 28-31. This is the third year in a row that The Vermont Quartet have celebrated New Year’s Eve at Madison Square Garden, and the second consecutive year they have played four nights at the Garden. After this run of shows, Phish will have headlined ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ 27 times since 1994.

A limited number of tickets are available directly through Phish Tickets’ online ticketing system at http://tickets.phish.com. The ticket request period is currently underway and will end Monday, October 15 at Noon EST.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Saturday, October 20 at Noon EST. Tickets can be purchased online at or charge by phone at 866.858.0008. If tickets are still available, they may be purchased at the venue box office beginning Monday, October 22. For the first time ever at an MSG Phish run, the floor at these four Madison Square Garden shows will be divided into two general admission areas.

In addition, CID Entertainment has secured a number attractive rates at some hotels around the city for this run. To see what’s being offered, click here.

The New Year’s run will likely kick off a big year for Phish as they prepare for their 30th anniversary on December 2, 2013. According to a recent interview with keyboardist Page McConnell, the band will also begin work on a new, highly-collaborative studio album. In a message posted on his hotline, bassist Mike Gordon also says his solo band took the fall off to reinvent “new music…new set design… new everything.”

All four members of Phish will play the New York City-area in the next month. Mike Gordon will appear at East Rutherford, NJ’s IZOD Center tomorrow at the Love for Levon benefit, Jon Fishman will perform as part of The Everyone Orchestra at New York’s Sullivan Hall from October 26-28 and McConnell will join The Meter Men at New York’s BB King Blues Club on October 31 and November 1. Trey Anastasio will also perform with his solo band at New York’s Beacon Theater on October 26 as well as Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre on October 28. As reported earlier today, Anastasio’s Hands on a Hard Body will open on Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre on March 21 (previews begin February 23).

PM, you are the precise reason the modern fanbase sucks. You live in a competetive world where it’s all about one upsmanship, and comparison. You should work for ESPN. Most people just love to dance, and be in the moment. You like to hate and degrade.

PM is right

Pretty sure Mike was talking about his solo band on the hotline, not Phish.

Did bj actually just say that Furthur copied something from Phish? Pretty safe to say, without Phil and Bobby, there would be no Phish.

Too bad so many people can’t allow for the idea that the Dead and Phish are each incredible in their own way. Why does it have to be a competition? I wish the Dead, in their later years, had jammed like Phish does, and I wish Phish could write more gems like Jerry and the boys did through the years. I’m thankful that Phish is out there carrying on the tradition. They learned important lessons at the feet of the masters. Enjoy!

WTF ... there are places to play than MSG guys. Kinda sick of the constant NYE at MSG

yahooo October 3, 2012, 09:08:46

well considering phish spelled out something in their set list in Colorado and then like 2 weeks later furthur did the same exact thing, I’d say its copying. fine we’ll call it a “tip of the hat” to PHISH. is that better?

timmy October 3, 2012, 11:06:37

I am very aware of how both bands play. I’m a huge fan of both. Anyone who compares any of the great “jam” bands to each other has a Top Ten type mentality. Great live music is what it is. Yes, tip of the hat is definitely a more appropriate phrasing. Any member of Phish would say the same thing I’m sure.

Both Fish and Further suck and their is no comparison with the Grateful Dead, one couldn’t hold the Deads jock strap and the other is a parasite eating off a Dead carcass.

mb October 3, 2012, 21:02:35

I’ve seen Phish and Furthur fairly recently and they were every bit as good if not better than several Dead shows I saw through the years. The Dead changed the way I listen to music. I’m forever grateful. It’s a shame if people want to crystallize the experience and not allow for change. Relax and get in the flow. Maybe realize that it’s more about process than product. Phish is awesome. Just ask Phil.

WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mb October 5, 2012, 22:15:52

You tell me. Since the name of the site is jambands.com, it would seem that many people might care… or at least have an opinion. What’s your point?

dk70 October 8, 2012, 15:47:48

Phish is great and the GD rules. Oh yeah and Widespread Panic sucks.

t-rex October 10, 2012, 09:08:00

No phish for me at the garden, just Biscuits!

Eric October 11, 2012, 08:28:16

Just please webcast it so I don’t have to deal with any of you annoying people.

Phish Phans SUCK December 5, 2012, 12:17:58

I agree with Eric. I’ll download the webcast for free, weeks after the shows. The people that go to these shows are annoying assholes. Parasites and leeches that just care about getting a thrill for themselves.
