I really wish these people would quit pimping themselves out fot he democratic cause. If they continue to push for these causes, they they will continue to lose my entertainment dollars…even after the election has passed. No one likes to be told what they ‘should’ be doing by an entertainer.

I wonder if Young Tim knows whether or noti they are being paid as the term “pimping” implies or the difference betwern democracy (get out to the polls and parcipate) and the Democratic party.

Hey Tim. Headcount doesn’t work for the Democratic party in any way. A lot of people who volunteer with them might lean left but they register anyone and everyone who wants to register at the shows they’re at. These musicians are helping out Headcount, not the Dem party. But maybe when you say “democratic cause” you just mean voting in general. If that’s the case, then what do you have against voting?

Dr. Mantis Toboggan October 5, 2012, 14:10:59

Headcount is a liberal organization. Republican registrations are not sent in. Conservatives are harassed by their volunteers. Emails are sent after elections to try to get people “angry” when Democrats lose. If you have any doubt about the organization’s liberal orientation, just look at their website. I have no evidence that the Democrat party financially supports Headcount. However, they do enjoy the benefits of tax-exempt status by claiming to be “nonpartisan”, which is demonstrably false. Registering voters is great, but someone needs to take control and send the message to their volunteers that conservatives should not be descriminated against if they want to maintain their “nonpartisan” designation.

Johnny E, I’ve seen Headcount in action up close and personal. They are a ‘cause’ but it is no secret which way they lean and their actions have proven this time and again to those of us who bother to look past all the hoopla. Anyone bothering to pay attention to the politcal process does not need a concert to draw attention to how important the voting process is. Sam, all I’m saying is Headcount shows are not exactly about the music or democracy. Knowing how the artists performing lean, its easy to come to some conclusions as to whom these things are aimed at. Thank you Dr. Mantis for understanding what I was getting at…you nailed it. BTW, Johnny, save your condescending attitude for the young tikes who may be reading and commenting on this. I’ve been involved in this scene long before it was a scene.

Headcount absolutely sends in all Republican registrations and any claim otherwise is an outright lie. A lot of the volunteers may be liberal but I guarantee you they do not receive any funding or coordinate in any way with the Democratic party. If you do see any volunteers harassing conservatives then you should try to get their names and email Headcount directly, they will deal with it. The group does try to be non-partisan but they can’t control the behavior of their volunteers unless people notify them when the volunteers are out of line.
