The Meters, Rush, Albert King Among Rock Hall Nominees (and You Can Vote)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced the nominees for 2013 induction. Recent Relix cover artist The Meters have received a long-overdue nod. Other nominees include: Rush, Albert King, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, Randy Newman, N.W.A., Procol Harum, Public Enemy and Donna Summer.

One new element this year is the fan vote. As the Rock Hall explains, “For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. Beginning on Thursday, October 4 and continuing through December 5, the public can cast votes for who they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees.” Click here to vote for your favorite.

Can’t believe fuckin’ RUSH is not in the R n R HOF. Fuckin’ ABBA but not RUSH. Who the fuck has done the voting in the past for who is inducted?? I guess a room full of chimps randomly throwing their shit at a board with the nominees printed on it!!

Don’t forget Madonna. There’s some rock and roll for ya. How about Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel? That place is Jann Wenner’s private spank house.

The RnR HOF lost all respectability when Madonna was enshrined. Her over Leon Russell makes the place a joke! Look at this year’s list: Chic, Heart, Joan Jett, Kraftwerk, The Marvellettes, Donna Summer & yeah boyyyyy, Public Enemy. Not one of of these bands belong in a true RnR HOF. I wouldn’t go w/ a free ticket, and I live in Ohio. The theme album for this entire place should be The Who’s “Sell Out”!

The Meters should have been voted in a long time ago. The Meters were one of the originators or Funk music, if not the originator. They have influenced over 50 bands. There music is still played heavily some 45 years after it was written. Wake up people vote for the Meters. If your are not familiar with them check out YouTube. They for sure should be in the top 3 of this list.

Jim – sure there’s some weird ones on there like usual, but Heart is a fucking huge, crushing rock band that definitely deserves to be in there. Both Wilson sisters are at the top of a short list of most influential female rockers ever if you ask me.

There are some weird ones for sure, but the meters, albert king, and rush are incredible. Absolutely amazing all 3 are not in there already.
