Trey Anastasio has spent the past few days in Montclair, NJ rehearsing for his upcoming solo tour at the Wellmont Theater. The venue’s bookers Bowery Presents spent time with Anastasio at his rehearsals and filmed the new Anastasio original “Corona,” which the guitarist has yet to perform live. The video also features the first official footage of Anastasio’s current Trey Anastasio Band, which features new saxophonist James Casey (Lettuce) and the return of percussionist Cyro Baptista.

Anastasio likely brought Baptista back into the fold to help recreate the percussion-heavy songs on his new studio album Traveler. The video also hints that Anastasio’s horn section many also play some axillary keyboards during the show. Even more surprisingly, Anastasio is shown playing a red Fender instead of his trademark Languedoc. Bowery Presents has also posted a short interview with the Phish guitarist where he describes his long relationship with Traveler producer Peter Katis (one quick correction: Anastasio mentions they first played together at UVM in 1985 when it fact Katis opened for Phish for the first time in 1987).

In related news, Baptista has signed on to blog for Relix.com throughout Trey Anastasio Band’s upcoming tour. His first post reveals that he is currently working on Traveler songs like “Let Me Lie,” “Frost,” “Valentine” and “Land of Nod.”

The percussionist shared a few images and quick reflections from Trey Anastasio Band’s rehearsals earlier today, and he will continue to provide us with color and commentary over the coming days.

Baptista’s tour diary can be found here.
