Questlove with some famous friends this September

Come the spring semester Questlove will teach a course called “Classic Albums” at New York University’s Tisch School, according to Billboard. Questlove, who is most famous for his role as drummer for The Roots, will share teaching responsibilities with the vice president of Universal Music Enterprises and Grammy winner, Harry Weinger.

The class will explore music, lyrics, production and business aspects, like promotion and marketing, in order to examine why “classic” or “seminal” albums are considered such. Questlove was chosen, according to NYU Professor Jason King, because “he’s one of the smartest people in music, besides being a fantastic musician” and he already functions as and informal professor in the hip-hop and general music community. Possible albums to be discussed include Sly & The Family Stone’s Stand!, There’s A Riot Goin’ On, Aretha Franklin’s Lady Soul, Led Zeppelin’s IV, Prince’s Dirty Mind, Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and the Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique, among others.
