Andrew Bird to Perform on Letterman Tonight Despite Storm

Andrew Bird will make a last minute appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight. Special guests Tift Merritt and double bassist Alan Hampton will join Bird during his performance. The program is slated to air at 11:35 EST and Letterman will tape without a studio audience. David Byrne and St. Vincent were slated to perform on the program this evening but canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. Hampton actually tried to walk to the studio with his double bass over the Manhattan Bridge, but luckily got a lift along the way to make the show. In a message to his email list, Bird says that many of his fans took solace in their “headphones” and “turntables” during the storm which inspired him to perform tonight.

I’m glad David Byrne didn’t make it onto Letterman tonight. Andrew Bird and his bandmates were a wonderful revelation.

I tuned in because the bands sound great to us at home. After hearing the trio I bought the album (thru emusic.com) immediately. Thanks for some engrossing music!

I first heard this preformed live by Bird and his band at the Fox theater in Oakland. It was great to hear it again with a complementary female voice.

Thought they were fabulous; however, I’m a little prejudiced…Alan Hampton is my nephew!
