Grace Potter and The Nocturnals celebrated “Halloween in Space” on Wednesday at the San Diego House of Blues. Decked out in shiny, silver spacesuits, the band kicked things off with the intro to “The Twilight Zone” before moving into the title track from their new album The Lion, the Beat, the Beast. The set blended originals such as “Medicine,” “Parachute Heart” and “The Divide” with such fitting covers as “I’m Your Venus,” “Spaceman” and a “Walking On The Moon” tease. Then for the encore, the themes to Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey led into the group’s new single, “Stars.” A “Space Oddity” tease came next, followed by covers of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” The latter song featured rayLand Baxter, who opened the night.

Tonight it’s on to Los Angeles for a show at the Wiltern Theatre.
