Members of My Morning Jacket, Blonde Redhead, Yuck, Javelin, Against Me! and others will participate in the third-annual Brooklyn Rock Lottery. The collaborative show will take place at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory on Saturday, December 1. Members of Nicholas Jaar, Hospitality and others will also participate.

The Rock Lottery began in Denton, TX in 1997 (and in Seattle in 2006). The show’s schedule goes like this: A mix of 25 hand-selected musicians will meet at 10 AM, where they are organized into five groups through a lottery-based selection. These groups are then released to collaborate and practice at different locations, with 12 hours to choose a band name and write three to five songs (with a one cover-song limit). The groups will then perform the material as a band in front of a live audience on the very same night.

Following the tremendous devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, Brooklyn’s Rock Lottery will donate 100% of the proceeds from this year’s event to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Entry is $15 and every cent goes back to helping those in need.
