Justin Townes Earle, The Wallflowers and Tift Merritt to Play Hurricane Sandy Relief Benefit at the Cap

Justin Townes Earle will headline a benefit concert at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre tomorrow, November 10. All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the American Red Cross to support their relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy victims. The Wallflowers and Tift Merritt will open the night. The performance is slated to kick off at 8 PM. Though Earle was already slated to perform at the Cap on this evening, the theater’s management and promoters Bowery Presents turned the evening into a benefit after Hurricane Sandy devastated the area.

Was fortunate to see him at the Capitol Theater (Port Chester, NY) in November of 2012. What we are watching here is man possessed and as he shifts shudders and taps around stage as if the devil is nipping at his heels. In nervousness he constantly between songs is tweaking tuning his guitar as if he is about to squeeze the purest sound out a guitar of what may be his last song. Yes, he is without doubt on the great Americana musical death trip. A musical prodigy very few understand or get in a pop culture bubblegum universe. He rails against mainstream country and rightly so even as two young blondes in the eighth row screamed of their affection of Dierks Bentley. Is it true that JTE has been in and out of rehab thirteen times? Maybe so, go see him now.
