Longtime Relix / Jambands.com favorites Steel Train will reunite for for a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on January 5.

Though the band never formally went on hiatus, the group has not performed in 15 months. During that time the members of the group have performed in a variety of settings. Of particular note, frontman Jack Antonoff has focused on his other band fun., who were one of 2012’s biggest success stories (they played SNL earlier this month). Bassist Evan Winiker has spent much of the band’s downtime working on film/television projects in LA and writing for The Huffington Post , guitarist Daniel Silbert has focused on his photography work and drummer Jon Shiffman plays in the Automatic Funk Project.

In a message the band says:

It’s been almost 15 months since steel train has played a show. nothing has been said in that time period, and after much thought, we’ve realized that everyone who has loved our band as much as we have since 2002, deserves a lot more than silence.

so here’s the deal:

we don’t know what the future holds for steel train. we do know that there are no immediate plans to get things up and running again, so with that said, we want to give everyone a chance to come celebrate steel train once more (for the time being…).

to everyone who has come to our shows, listened to our albums, let us sleep on their floors, or played any part in making the past decade of steel train the most incredible life changing experience any of us could have hoped for, we invite you to join us on january 5th at the bowery ballroom in NYC.

let’s celebrate a decade of steel train the right way.

can’t wait to see all of our amazing friends and fans from all over the country in NY this january.

Tickets will go onsale this Friday.
